Before you head into the gym next, you may want to think about this. The equipment is covered with germs that make you sick… more than you may realize.
A recent UC Irvine study collected and analyzed bacteria from a basketball court, players’ hands and the basketballs and quickly found Staphylococcus aureus (which causes Staph infections). Researchers determined that the bacteria could live and grow on the ball for around three days, even if it’s sterilized before a game.
Benches, showers and toilets are also covered with bacteria and should be wiped down with antibacterial wipes of some kind.
Let’s focus more on gym equipment itself.
